Pio Joris

A pupil of Achille Vertunni Academy of St. Luke, and Mariano Fortuny known at the Exhibition of the works of Florence Morelli, Palizzi and Altamura, he decided to start his studies by copying from real life. He dealt with skill and luck the historical, landscape, genre painting. Traveled to Italy, France, Spain, and England, and covered, at home, important positions. He exhibited at major European exhibitions.

Are repeated between his paintings: “One Sunday morning outside the Porta del Popolo in Rome”, in the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome rewarded with the gold medal of the first class of Monaco of Bavaria International; “After begging” , winner of gold medal in Vienna in 1873, “a merchant of ancient things in Toledo”, winner of gold medal in Paris in 1875, “Baptism” and “Forward baptism island of Ischia” exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1876-1878; “After the blessing,” awarded in Naples in 1877, “the public scribe” and “Recreation in the Garden”, purchased by the National Gallery in Budapest, “the flight of Pope Eugene IV” shown in Rome in 1883, now in the Gallery of Modern Art, “The Via Flaminia”, exhibited in Rome in 1893, “The procession of the Forty Hours,” “the cloaked”, with which he won the prize in 1906 Muller , “The Tiber” and “Ponte Sisto”, exhibited in 1915 at the International San Francisco.
