Biography

Attilio Torresini, who trained in Venice with Dal Zotto, moved to Rome in 1914 where he made a name for himself producing portraits, small sculptures and genre works. A. Crespi wrote of him: ‘And here we have Torresini, this sculptor of calm, healthy forms, this sculptor of the portrait in the function of serene architecture, touched by an expressionist breath. The eye flows over his surfaces without interruption or jolting; it pauses only to catch the rearrangements of the line, intended to barely mark a character, to suggest a smile, to indicate the hair’s gait. We would even call him elegant in certain of his solutions, if he were not so spontaneous and forthright in his choice of forms’. His works include Sleeping Ariadne, Penelope, Reclining Woman, Invocation, After the Bath, Portrait of Vittorio Morpurgo and Nude.
