    Ruggero Panerai

    Of humble origin, so that up to fifteen years he worked as a carpenter, he frequented the Florentine Academy, then the study of Giovanni Fattori, which imitated the subjects – horses, sheep cowboys – if not the technique. Good and were praised his early work: “The ford”, which appeared in 1887 at the Exhibition of Venice, “The sick horse” canvas with which the author in the same year he won the prize in Milan Fumagalli, and that was bought by Ernesto Rossi, “Mazzeppa,” which, on show in Bologna in 1888 deserved to Panerai appointment as professor in that academy, “a cow-shed,” presented to the Promoter Florentine 1890; “One night”, which was awarded in Florence in 1892. Then the artist, who was so well set out on the road to a safe reputation, he preferred to devote himself to the more lucrative genre painting with subject eighteenth century. The Gallery of Modern Art in Milan keeps him “Butteri in Maremma”.
