Romolo Del Bo
Romolo Del Bò was born in Pavia in 1870. Protagonist of a heterogeneous language between social verism and impressionism.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the sculptor approached the symbolist poetics of the Secession and the language of Adolf Wildt, especially his way of treating marble. In fact, Romolo Del Bò’s figures are characterised by a synthetic formalism, but remain linked to the elongated and sensual forms of his master Barzaghi, the Lombard Enlightenment and the Impressionism of Medardo Rosso. In the 1920s, he reached the formal syntheticism of Novecento purity.
At auction, he starts with quotations around 700 for small bronze female figures, up to the 2005 auction record of €10,500 for an allegorical bust representing L’elegia.
The site is constantly updated with unpublished works by the protagonists of painting and sculpture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
