THE MOUNTAIN OF VISIONS – Giovanni Segantini, the birth of the myth
curated by Niccolò D’Agati, with Mirella Carbone
The exhibition The Mountain of Visions, promoted by the G. Segantini Gallery in Arco, explores the birth and evolution of the Segantini myth, investigating the artist’s impact and his legacy on subsequent generations. Divided into four sections, the exhibition traces the main moments in the construction of this memory: from the monumental tributes of Leonardo Bistolfi (Un palpito de la Terra), to the iconography of the artist in portraits and self-portraits (Quegli che vede dall’alto), to the symbolic places of the Engadine, a pilgrimage destination for many painters (L’Alta pace) .
The conclusion, Questo mio sogno ideale. Nel solco di Segantini (My ideal dream. In the footsteps of Segantini), explores the artistic dialogue with Giovanni Giacometti and Carlo Fornara, as well as the contribution of his sons Mario and Gottardo, who continued and reinterpreted their father’s teachings.
The Berardi Gallery is delighted to have contributed to this exhibition with two works closely linked to Giovanni Segantini’s family legacy: Maloja by Gottardo Segantini, painted in the 1920s, and Portrait of William Ritter by Mario Segantini, dated 1903. Both works, in different ways, bear witness to the continuity and evolution of Segantini’s influence in subsequent generations.
