Event: Modena Antiquaria – XXX Antiques Exhibition

The annual exhibition of Modena Antiquaria, with the special exhibition of nineteenth-century Italian art Excelsior contained therein, will be characterized in 2016 by a selection of works presented by the Berardi Gallery with a focus on the Modenese and Venetian masters between 800 and 900.

Among the first we remember the bronze model by Giuseppe Graziosi for the equestrian statue of Mussolini, once in situ at the Renato Dall’Ara stadium in Bologna, Il Momento opportune by Gaetano Chierici, presented to the Promoting Society of Genoa in 1866 and finally Notturno – Rio San Francesco in Venice by Giuseppe Miti Zanetti, replica with variants of the work preserved at the Ricci Oddi Gallery in Piacenza.

Among the Venetian masters, Ettore Beraldini’s masterpiece Threatening a storm, sent to the Venice Biennale in 1930, a rare counterpart to Emma Ciardi’s views of Venice, a rediscovered painting by Umberto Moggioli Flowers in the rain, published in the magazine Emporium; lastly the extraordinary impressionist language of Italico Brass used for Al lido di Venezia in 1911, mindful of the contemporary examples of Sorolla and John Lavery. International painting cameo will be Antonio Mancini’s Little Sculptor, exhibited for the first time here.
