Raffele (Raffaele) Ambrogio was born in Vigevano in 1845. He first attended the faculty of engineering in Turin, later abandoning it to follow his artistic vocation under the guidance of Antonio Fontanesi and Andrea Castaldi, studying at the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
The young man’s language is extremely reminiscent of Antonio Fontanesi’s production, reworking the master’s painting through a more vivid chromaticism.
The small-sized oils on cardboard have quotations ranging from €500 to an auction record for an oil on canvas of €3,900.
