    Raffaele Giannetti

    He completed his training under the guidance of Arienti and then in Rome with Coghetti. Here in 1863 he exhibited “Bersabò Visconti and the messengers of Innocent VI” for which he was expelled from the Papal States. In 1864 he exhibited in Venice Vettor Pisari released from prison, which earned him the appointment as a member of the Academy of art Veneta, and praise Hayez. With the help of Gastaldi was able to travel to Paris, where he attended the Couture and approached Delaroche.

    In the French capital he painted “Benvenuto Cellini” and “Francis I”, which was purchased by the King of Bavaria. In 1872 he settled in Venice, and won the competition at Fondazione Querini Stampalia with “John Beard Tigo freeing the Queen of Hungary” was completed in December of that year, and exhibited in 1874 at the International Exhibition in Vienna. In 1874 he went to Florence to perform “The death of Beatrice”, exhibited in Naples in 1876, and attended the painters hardliners such as the Palagi and Ciseri.

    He traveled widely and carefully Europe and was in Vienna and in London, where he made friends with the painter Leighton and Tennyson, and was appreciated by Morelli.     He treated the historical background, gender, and the portrait, and he was tireless and prolific artist. Spirit fervently open to new things, influenced him on the Hayez, the romantic French, English, and finally the research of macchiaiuoli. His paintings are for the most part abroad, and at the descendants of the painter.
