Paolo Gaidano
He completed his training at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, a student of Gastaldi and Gamba. At age 18 he executed the fresco paintings of the parish church of Carignano, really great work by the number and range of paintings, representing “John the Baptist in the desert” and “St. Remigius baptized Clovis.”
He took part in numerous exhibitions, most often in Turin, and especially those of the Promoter. He won the competition “Fatherland and Religion” held in Turin in 1898 by Umberto I, with a work entitled “Franciscan Glorie”, composed of 12 frames, which now is found in the Vatican.
He had the Portrait Award at the Promoter Turin in 1902, with a “Study for the portrait of the Duke of Aosta.” He left several oil paintings, including “Shakespearean Works” series of eleven paintings waxing the works of the English playwright, now preserved in the Cafe Royal in London; “Awakening of nature,” three paintings of rural scenes, well preserved in London.
Other most significant works: “Disappointed”, “Dream of St. Cecilia,” “The botanist of the Convent,” “The mistress”, “the sun”, “Death of Manon Lescaut,” “Here it is at last,” “The Music Lesson “” interesting reading, “” The shepherdess “, in the Civic Museum of Turin. This prolific artist executed more than one hundred portraits, include: “Vittorio Emanuele II”, “The Duke of Aosta,” “The Duchess of Aosta,” “The playwright Valentino Carrera” in the Museum of Turin, “Don Roe vicar of Carignano. “Skilled fresco painter, he worked in many churches of Piedmont is recalled, as well as the aforementioned work in Carignano, his colossal “Calvary” in the church of the Sacred Heart of Bussana (Imperia).
