    Son of the design and modest painter Joshua and Louise Meaney , completed his technical studies, he enrolled in 1856 at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, where he studied with Schmidt, Bisi , Zimmermann, Dreams and the Director Giuseppe Bertini , having for classmates Federico Faruffini , Tranquillo Cremona , Daniel Ranzoni and Filippo Carcano with which split for a few years studying in Milan’s Via San Primo.
