    Massimo D’Azeglio

    Born in Turin on 24 October 1798 , died as well in Turin January 15, 1866 . Child again, he followed his father into exile in Florence , and then, Napoleon fell , he returned to the capital of Piedmont and there he studied at the University , then went to Rome with his father. In Rome he had to first master the Calabrian Ciccio De Capo.

    In Rome, he returned again in 1816 and in 1820 to study you painting, and this time under the guidance of the Flemish Martin Verstappen , who learned the taste of real , typical of the Nordic landscape painters , some of whom were then in Rome. In his ” Memories ” D’Azeglio said: ” The main thing that drove me was the feeling of nature, never thought the effect directly , but if I obtained , I wanted to get it nobly patiently listening to the advice that the feeling of nature suggested to me . ” It was certainly one of the first Italian artists who gave dignity to the landscape, although he is best known as a painter of pictures and of battles.
