    Leopoldo Galeota Russo

    He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in his city, a pupil of Gioacchino Toma, then he was a disciple and companion of Rubens Santoro. He started his career in 1888 Exhibition to mark the centenary of the University of Bologna.

    He traveled extensively through Europe and was in Romania and in Russia, where in 1898 he was the promoter, with Paolo Sala’s first exhibition of Italian art and together with the above artist executed the big picture “Sumerki”, successfully exhibited at the Academy imperial and later stolen.

    He then went to England becoming noted as a landscape painter and as a portraitist. Back in Italy, he exhibited in 1925 in Milan, in 1926 in Rome, in 1928 in Bergamo and Biella. Some of his works: “Back from the Fair of the New Jerusalem in the old Russia,” “Port of Genoa,” “The standard of Chioggia.”
