Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach was born in Germany in Hadamr in 1851. In 1885 he chose an abandoned quarry in Germany as his home and the desire to found an artistic commune to live in connection with nature began to grow within him.
His symbolist and mystery painting became iconic, especially the works created in his unspoilt Capri.
At auctions, the latter works with Capri landscapes are the most popular. The painter’s 2017 auction record was €70,000, while the minimum was €140 for a mixed technique on paper.
