    Gaetano Esposito

    Born November 17, 1858 in Salerno, who committed suicide in Sala Consilina April 7, 1911. Attracted by immense love for the sea, he translated the various aspects in a form of personal art. Disciple of Gaetano D’Agostino, then attended the Academy of Naples pupil of Morelli and was assiduous in night school Stanislaus list.

    From genre scenes to large decorations that inherit the tonalism of the 17th century, Esposito is one of the greatest representatives of the Neapolitan School of the second half of the 19th century.

    Gaetano Esposito’s oil paintings fetch on average between €4,000 and €14,500 at auctions, especially if they are dedicated to Neapolitan views or figures of scugnizzi, fishermen and common people. Higher figures can be obtained from the large choral works of interiors executed between 1880 and 1890. The 2005 auction record is €46,482 for a large canvas with figures inside a church.
