    Francesco Jerace

    At the age of eighteen, he showed up at the annual prize of the competition held in Rome in 1871, and between fourteen competitors earned fourth place. The following year, he won the competition held by the Virtuosi of the Pantheon in Rome for retirement Stanzani, succeeding first of eighteen competitors.

    Following this victory, he was entrusted with the execution of the “Monument to Mary Somerville” illustrious scientist, work that earned him the praise of the Emperor of Brazil, Don Pedro and the great painter Gerome, who wanted to honor them with a visit to the study of the young sculptor. Turin Exposition of 1880 presented many works in marble and bronze, which the group “Triumph of Germanicus, Victa” and the statue “Marion”, which made him get two big prizes. After a period of study, undertaken Jerace the modeling of a mystical group, the “Conversion of St. Augustine”, a work commissioned by Count Felix Sobankj for the church of S. M. Warsaw, from which he subsequently responsible for carrying out other works.

    Jerace was an honorary professor of the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples, corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan, honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, honorary member of the Academy of Cosenza Cosenza; Pontaniana ordinary member of the Academy of Naples, honorary professor of R. Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
