Francesco Ghittoni

Attended the institute Gazzola; pupil of Bernardino Pollinari. His early work, sent in 1873 at the Milan, and rewarded, they did know for talented painter of genre. Admired the paintings were in 1881 “The Country Doctor” and “San Martino” exposed again in Milan in the Senate House. In 1883 in Rome were successful four paintings: “The lesson,” “The Cradle,” “Saint’s day of his grandfather,” “The new mother.” Exhibited in Turin in 1885, in Venice in 1887, and again in 1897 in Milan, where he was awarded the painting “Sorrowful Farewell”, which in 1898 was chosen and sent to the Exhibition of Leningrad. His other works: “Head of old,” “First greeting of the Risen Jesus,” “Ambulance,” “Gethsemane,” “Brotherly Love,” “Morning Star,” “Holy Family”, composed for the competition announced by Pope Leo XIII the Exhibition of Sacred Art in Turin in 1898. Soul deep religious mind, portrayed in his paintings the sad and happy moments of honest family life.

Luigi Archinti called him “the painter in art and nature of the suffering and comforting.” He worked for various churches, and keep him a “Anselm” in the church of Baggio, “Santa Eufemia” in the homonymous church of Piacenza and several paintings, even in Piacenza, in the Basilica of St. Sepulchre. Not only was a painter of merit, but, with a vast culture, was a writer polished and simple.
