Engaged in the navy at a young age he traveled extensively (India, Japan, Australia) before devoting himself to painting in a diligent from 1878 or so. He devoted himself to portraits, close to the Art Nouveau style of E. De Maria Bergler, to religious scenes in tune with D. Morelli, but in particular to the realization of scenes orientaliste.
E ‘in this vein that Cercone from the best with a multitude of small tablets characterized by flickering touch and bright color. Great paintings do not lose the verve and elegance that is typical of the painter (At the pyramids, presented to the Promoter of Naples, 1883). We also remember some occasional forays into the history of the Risorgimento (Admiral Caracciolo question Christian burial, sent to the Promoter of Naples, 1888).
