Born in Foggia May 3, 1814 died in Naples December 14, 1879.
Until 1838 he was self-taught painter, then attended the Accademiadi Belle Arti in Naples under the direction of Costanzo Angelini andPostiglione.
He kept strictly academic predilection for the historical and mythological subjects and gained fame as a portraitist. Exhibited in Naples, Florence, Foggia, in Venice. Some of his works figured in the Retrospective exhibitions of Bari and Naples in 1922.
His major works: “Challenge between Apollo and Marsyas“, “TheParnassus” fresco decoration in the hall of the Palace of FoggiaSiniscalchi, “Jacob,” “Abel,” “Self-Portrait” in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence; “San Ferdinando of Castile, “” Apotheosis of St. Vincent, “”Mater Dolorosa, “” The Madonna of the People, “” The presentation of the Virgin in the Temple, “” Portrait of the Marquis Garofalo, “”Head of an Old “” The old woman “; “the Four Seasons”; “Nicolò de‘Lapi,” “the last moments of King Ferdinand II.”
In 1854 he was appointed honorary professor of the Academy ofFine Arts in Naples and at the same time became the official painterglimpse of the House of Bourbon, obtaining favors and honors.
