Carl Ebert
Carl Ebert was born in 1821 in Stuttgart. He enrolled at the city’s art school and became a pupil of the neoclassical landscape painter Gottlob Friedrich Steinkopf and the Nazarene artist Johann Friedrich Dieterich.
In 1846, he moved to Munich. During this period, he often visited the Alte Pinakothek to study the works of the Old Masters.
He came into contact with Friedrich Salzer and Richard Zimmermann, both German landscape painters who were attracted to winter landscapes and forests.
The artist dedicated his entire production to landscape painting, in particular his favourite subject was the German forests in which he depicted and described the majesty of unspoilt places, the calm and peace within them and the beauty of sublime scenery. However, he does not create uninhabited landscapes, in fact very often we find small figures animating the composition.
Present at international and Italian auctions, Carl Ebert starts from a minimum of 110 for a few sketches on paper up to an auction record of €59,608 in 1993 for a large landscape with figures in Bosnia with a romantic feel.
