Antonio Piatti was born in 1875 in Viggiù, in the province of Varese, but moved a few years later to Cuneo, where his marble worker father opened a sculpture workshop. The young man began working in his father’s workshop where he learned his first rudiments as a marble decorator.
In 1895 he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts where he studied sculpture and painting, taking lessons from Cesare Tallone that influenced him to such an extent that he preferred pictorial art to sculpture.
Like the master, Antonio Piatti also devoted himself to figure painting and portraits, blending Tallone’s loose, textural brushwork with the more intimist aspect of Scapigliatura.
Quotations for this artist are varied: small landscapes start from €200 up to €1500 . Figure painting, including portraits or genre scenes, has higher quotations starting from 350€ reaching an auction record of 30,000€ in 2019 for a large portrait.
