Amleto Cataldi was born in Naples in 1882 but moved to Rome at a very young age.
His first production is linked to the sculptural language of the late 19th century, while he later opened up to the Art Nouveau style.
His sculptures are delicate and ethereal, despite the strong plastic consistency derived from his study of classical art. The light bathes the bodies delicately, without creating obvious chiaroscuro contrasts, giving the figures extreme harmony. The subjects of dancers and female nudes are the artist’s most frequently reproduced subjects, characterised by a gracefulness and fine, yet captivating sensuality.
The bronzes with a more accentuated Art Nouveau character are highly valued at EUR 2,000 and above. The plaster sculptures are estimated at between EUR 500 and EUR 1,000.
