Bronze founder, born in Rome on January 28, 1842, he studied as a youth for four years under Antonio Messina. Therefore, by setting up a small workshop, it could, by dint of perseverance and good will, grow more and more, until it had the renowned plant it has today and from which a number of valuable works reproduced by classical works and by modern artists came and went.
Among these works we mention “A Blessed Virgin” sent to San Domingo in America, by commission of the President of that Republic; the statue “Cesare Augusto”, high m. 2.10, shipped to San Francisco of California; the reproduction of “Two lions” by Canova also sent to America; a “Nymph” and a “Faun” by prof. Muller a bust of “Leo XIII”; a statue of “Colonel Prescott”; “The History”; “The Union”; “La Vittoria” and “L’Emancipazione” modeled by Mr. Rogers, a large bust of “King Umberto” and the large statue of “Arnaldo da Brescia” modeled by the sculptor Tabacchi of Turin.
Nelli exhibited at various exhibitions and competitions, and was awarded a silver medal in Paris in 1878, a diploma of honor at the Turin Exposition and a third class medal at the Melbourne Exposition. S. M. King Umberto awarded him with the Knight’s Cross in the order of the Crown of Italy.
