Adriano Cecioni
A sculptor, painter, draftsman, and critical combative. He completed his studies at the Academy of Florence, fighter in 1859, and in 1863, won the pensioner, he went to Naples, where he could develop his artistic personality and get rid of academicism. He founded there with De Nittis the School of Resin. Returning to Florence, he joined the Macchiaiuoli and was among those who frequent the Caffè Michelangelo. Spent any time in London, where he lived drawing illustrations and caricatures for newspapers and magazines. Of his paintings, little is known, except as expressed in the sketches of the tasty, with exquisite feeling, moments and scenes, unnoticed by most, of the intimate life human as “The task,” “The Vigil”; “Mom and Child “;” baby looking out the light, “in private collections. Other work is worthy to be mentioned the great watercolor “The Macchiaiuoli coffee Michelangelo” which depicts twenty-four artists, horribly caricatured, while they are seated at tables, talking and laughing with each other. It once belonged to Signorini, who had particularly dear, as he wrote in his memoirs “Cartoonists and caricatured at Caffè Michelangelo.” At the Gallery of Modern Art in Florence there is a strong and expressive “Portrait of the wife.”
